MARLBOROUGH – The city and local muralist Melissa Stratton is inviting residents to a paint party at Union Common on Sunday, Sept. 3, from noon to 2 p.m.

Under the guidance from Stratton, the residents will paint squares for the mayor’s mural project. Once completed, the mural will reflect Marlborough’s history.

The project is scheduled to be completed this fall. Weather permitting, there will be an unveiling of the project sometime in early November at the site across from 75 S. Bolton St.

“Art should bring communities together and that’s exactly what we do with a paint party,” said Stratton. “This is my favorite part of creating murals. To see young children painting alongside their grandparents and knowing that they will take credit for the art as they grow brings me so much joy.”

The paint party welcomes all residents regardless of artistic experience or age.

“We are grateful to Ms. Stratton for spearheading this effort. The paint party will serve as an opportunity to bring our community together; incorporating fun while sharing in our deeply rich history. This vibrant mural will be visible along a main thoroughfare welcoming folks into our historic downtown district for years to come. I look forward to its completion,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant.

The project is sponsored in part by a grant from the Marlborough Cultural Council. More information about the mayor’s mural project and paint party can be found at www.marlborough-ma.gov/mayors-office/pages/mayors-mural-project.
