Mary E. JeffersDudley – Mary “Bettie” E. (Downing) Jeffers, 78, of Corbin Road, died Sunday, November 12, 2023, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Henry “Jay” A. Jeffers III of Dudley; her son, Andrew J. Jeffers and his wife Misty of Dudley; her brother, John J. Downing of Hudson; three grandchildren, Joshua L. Jeffers and Luka Jeffers, both of Dudley, and Isabella M. Moreno of Charlton; her sister-in-law, Margaret Bouvier of Hudson; her good friend, Heidi Smith of Charlton; and her foster daughter, Karen Butler. She was predeceased by her sister, K. Patricia Leon who died in 1998.

She was born in Concord, daughter of the late John M. and Agnes M. (Tobin) Downing, and lived in Concord before moving to Dudley in 1970. She graduated from Rose Hawthorne High School in Concord, and attended Fisher Junior College in Southbridge.

Mrs. Jeffers was a secretary for Department of Public Works in Boston, Wellesley, and Worcester for 11 years.

In addition, she owned and operated Mighty Might Day Care Center and worked for P.N.C. Bank as a senior investment representative. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Dudley.

A funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road, Dudley. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Dudley.  A calling hour will be held on Friday from 12:00 noon – 1:15 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Birthright of Hudson-Marlboro, 277 Main St., Marlboro, MA 01752; St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Rd., Dudley, MA 01571; St. Joseph’s Indian School, P.O. Box 326, Chamberlain, SD 57326; or to a charity of your choice.
