SHREWSBURY – The Shrewsbury Police Department helped spread some holiday cheer.

On Dec. 10, dozens gathered outside of the Shrewsbury Police Station for the department’s annual Fill the Wagon event. The community filled the department’s wagon, trailer and several additional bins with hundreds of toys, paper goods, clothing and hygiene supplies for those in need.

“It’s super important for people,” said Patrol Sgt. David Faucher. “Everyone is struggling right now with the economy the way it is, so anything we can do to help out, get people what they need at Christmas for kids, for families that don’t have what we have. It’s a way to give back to the community.”

The donations will benefit St. Anne’s and Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services. After the event had ended, the vehicles full of donations were paraded down Maple Avenue en route to St. Anne’s.

Santa, who made an appearance at the event, escorted the donations on a motorcycle.
