REGION – Heavy rain and wind overnight on Tuesday, Jan. 9, into Wednesday, Jan. 10, turned last weekend’s winter wonderland into a swamp.

In Northborough, part of Church Street between upper and lower Pleasant Street had to be closed Wednesday morning due to flooding.

Hastings Elementary School in Westborough had to cancel classes on Jan. 10 because of roof leaks caused by the rains.

Assabet Valley Regional High School in Marlborough also canceled classes due to the weather.

Both National Grid and Eversource reported no major power outages.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the region until 1 p.m. Wednesday. Local rivers are expected to reach flood stage over the next few days.

More rain is forecast for overnight Friday into Saturday.
