WESTBOROUGH – The proposal to demolish the Westborough Golf Club building will be on the Historical Commission’s agenda on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.

The meeting will be held in Room 215 of the Forbes Building.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24, but had to be postponed.

The recommendation for a demolition and rebuild came from the Golf Club Building Use Committee.

Meeting over the summer, the committee determined that it would cost more than $900,000, plus design fees, to make needed repairs.

According to the committee, the current building has lead paint and asbestos; the basement is unusable; and there are several fire hazards.

Based on input from surveys and town departments, the committee recommended a demolition and rebuild. The new building would house a pro shop and some kind of dining option, such as full service or “quick dining.”

Outdoor seating was also recommended, as well as function rooms.

In September, the committee presented its recommendations to the Select Board, which voted to endorse them.
