Hudson – On Thursday February 1, 2024 Maria Gloria Batista Rego Hinchey-Paz passed away unexpectedly at the age of 83.

Maria Gloria was born on the island of Santa Maria in the Azores, Portugal, on January 18, 1941 to the late Manuel and Angelina (Batista) Rego.

She is now reunited with her beloved son Phillip Batista Hinchey, who died in March of 2023, and her husband Manuel Francisco Paz, who died in 2013.

Gloria went to school to become a nurse in Portugal, then immigrated to the United States in 1968. She married William “Bill” Hinchey, had two children Elita and Phillip, and lived with her family at their home in Berlin, where she developed a love and talent for gardening, cooking, cake decorating and sewing. She and Bill were known in those days for having large memorable gatherings of family and friends at their home complete with plentiful home cooked Portuguese food and always music and dancing.

She later worked for Honeywell then ACT in Hudson as a supervisor for many years.

She bought a home in Hudson and married Manuel Francisco Paz in 2002. They enjoyed traveling and socializing and being with their pride and joy, grandchildren Ian, Kathryn and Bethany.

She was an avid music lover and some of her favorites were The Eagles, Queen and Pink Floyd.

She is survived by her daughter, Elita Gould and her husband Brian Gould of Marlboro, and her three grandchildren, Ian, Kathryn and Bethany Gould; her brother Manuel Rego and his wife MaryBeth Rego of Clinton; her sisters-in-law Elisia Rego of Lowell and Lucrenia Rego of Hudson; brother-in-law Januario Cabral of Hudson; as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins, including her godchildren Ema Cabral Burke and George Cabral, who were very close to her heart.

She was also predeceased by her siblings, Jose Batista Rego, Joao Batista Rego, Maria do Carmo Cabral and Fernanda Brasil, her nephews Eduardo Rego and Nicholas Rego and her former husband William Hinchey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 10am, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson, MA, for committal services. There are no calling hours per her wishes. All are invited to meet directly at Saint Michael Parish on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
