Maria D. FernandesHudson – Maria D. (Figueiredo) Fernandes, 79, of Hudson, MA, passed on Monday, March 4, 2024, in Marlborough, MA. She was the beloved wife of Antonio B. Fernandes, also of Hudson, MA.

Maria was born in Santa Maria – Azores, Portugal, on November 22, 1944, to her late parents Antonio Figueiredo and Ermelinda (Sousa).

Maria is survived by her husband of 63 years Antonio B. Fernandes; son Mario Fernandes and his wife Antonia of Hull, MA; daughter-in-law Michele Fernandes of Hudson, MA; grandson Noah Fernandes of Hudson, MA; brother Antonio Figueiredo of Hudson, MA; sister Maria Chaves of West Dennis, MA; her neighbors Luis and Zelia Ferreira, and their two sons, Alex and Brian, whom Antonio and Maria considered to be family; as well as other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Emmanuel and Ermelinda; her brother Jose Figueiredo; and her son Paul Fernandes.

Maria emigrated to the United States from Santa Maria, Portugal in 1969, and has lived in Hudson, MA, since settling here in 1969. She was a devout Catholic, and a parishioner at Saint Michael Parish in Hudson, MA.

Maria’s true passion was caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for holiday dinners, as well as crocheting. She also enjoyed making wine with her husband, Antonio. In her earlier years, Maria loved caring for her gardens.

Maria had a unique personality. While she was strong and assertive, she was also caring and compassionate, and held the ability to be the matriarch of her family, while simultaneously sharing the reigns and responsibilities of the family with those whom she cared about. She will be greatly missed.

Calling Hours for Maria will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 10:30am-12pm, at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Funeral Service will follow Calling Hours beginning at 12pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery, 278 Cox Street, Hudson, MA, for Committal Services.
