Hudson – Shirley E. (Mura) Carter, 88, of Hudson, passed away peacefully April 28, 2019 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by her loving family, after a period of declining health. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Vincent J. Carter, who predeceased her Nov. 6, 2017.

Shirley was born April 15, 1931 in Lawrence, one of three daughters of the late Raymond and Clarice (Howard) Mura. She was raised in Lawrence and after graduating high school she went on to earn her Nursing Degree.

She married the love of her life, Vincent J. Carter, on October 27, 1951, embarking on a 66-year journey of devotion and love. They eventually settled in Hudson, where she has resided for over 54 years.

Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother, whose family was her true pride and joy, especially her 24 grandchildren. She had a passion for the sun and the ocean and always enjoyed her summertime visits to the beach with the family.  She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and playing cards with friends and family.

Shirley is survived by her three sons, Gary J. Carter and his wife Donna of Rindge, N.H., Randy D. Carter and his wife Ellen of Hudson, and Gregory S. Carter and his wife Susan of Hudson; two daughters, Pamela J. Reynolds and her husband Bill of Hudson and Audrey R. Smith and her husband Richard of Berlin; her sister, Joyce Mura of Danvers; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sister, Claire Sexton.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 3, from 4-7 p.m., at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, May 4, at 9:30 a.m., at the funeral home; followed by a procession to Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson for final committal.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the Hudson-Concord Elks Bingo Scholarship Fund at Hudson-Concord, MA No. 959, PO Box 306, Hudson, MA 01749-0306.
