HUDSON – Hudson residents Mike and Mary Walling enjoyed a Danube River Cruise aboard the Viking ship “Vilhjam” in May.
They cruised for a week and enjoyed land tours in Bavaria, Austria, Bratislava and Budapest. Mike, a historian and author, observed his birthday, May 17, with a lighted scenic sail into Budapest and a performance of the Hungarian Horsemen at Lazar Equestrian Park.
A highlight of their Vienna visit was a Mozart & Strauss concert by Alma Deutscher, a 17-year old prodigy.
Mary Walling noted there was daily COVID testing, and masks were required or suggested on board and on walking tours. They enjoyed shore excursions and free time in major cities. It was the couple’s first cruise, and Mary Walling called it “spectacular!’
90th birthday
Mrs. Louise (Guidotti) Carney was honored with a family party at the Casa Diva restaurant in Northborough on Sunday, June 5, marking her 90th birthday on June 7.
Four generations of her family attended.
Mrs. Carney is the mother of James Carney, Stephen Carney, Charles Carney and Paul Carney; she also has six grandchildren and one great-grandson. A former resident of Hudson, she now resides at New Horizons in Marlborough.
Medusa Brewing Company story
Keith Sullivan of Medusa Brewing Company on Main Street was a guest speaker at the May meeting of the Hudson Historical Society at the First Federated Church Hall.
Sullivan, with partners Keith Antul and Tom Sutter established Medusa on Main Street, at the former site of Aubuchon Hardware nine years ago.
He said the brewery and taproom were constructed of repurposed materials to evoke its history.
Sullivan said he and his partners chose Hudson because it is “a blue collar, close-knit town.”
He explained the beer brewing process at Medusa to his audience, and discussed the opening of its latest venture, the Wild Hare eatery in the Landing at Hudson Mills on Broad Street.
Farmers’ Market open on Tuesdays
Hudson’s unique Farmers’ Market is open every Tuesday through Sept. 27 at Hudson Town Hall, rain or shine, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Market products include fruit, vegetables, honey, candles, greeting cards, soap, meat, poultry, eggs, jam, baked goods, charcuterie boards, fish, herbs, etc.

First United Methodist Church honors Hartford
Local residents and parishioners gathered Sunday, June 12 at First United Methodist Church, to honor and bid farewell to Hudson resident Stacey Hartford.
Ms. Hartford, who has accepted a pastor-ship at Athol Methodist Church, spearheaded the COVID Food Relief town-wide program throughout the pandemic.

Cultural Alliance to provide update on Armory project
The Hudson Armory, and its ultimate re-formation as an arts and performance center, will be the subject of the meeting of the Hudson Historical Society on Tuesday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the First Federated Church Hall at 200 Central St.
Hudson Cultural Alliance president Tom Desmond and Pat Luoto, secretary, will tell the history of the Armory, built in 1900, and provide an update on the progress of the Alliance’s plans to purchase it.
Further plans for the Hudson landmark at Washington and Park Street will be revealed at the meeting. The public is invited.
Juneteenth celebration planned
Hudson residents and students will gather at Wood Park on Park Street on Monday, June 20 at 12:30 p.m. for the second annual Juneteenth Festival.
The group will proceed downtown to Hudson Town Hall and Unitarian Church “to celebrate Freedom, Community and Heritage.”

Performers in the Hudson High Senior Musical included Michael Schiappa as “Pa Hatfield,” and Pat Colaluca as “Pa McCoy.”
“Red” Auerbach was chairman of the annual Easter Seal campaign.
Honored Manning Post VFW Post commanders included: Edward Rocha, Joseph Greska, Joseph Marvell, John Dunn, Joseph Lapine and Donald Dupree.
Tony Frias Sr. was president of the local Soccer Association.
John Purdy’s Orchestra provided music at the Hudson Elks Installation.
Selectmen appointed three new policemen: Clifford Blackman Jr., Richard Cronin and Harold Donahue.
Donald O’Bryant was elected president of Hudson Jaycees.
Armyman Paul McManus left for overseas duty.
