Northborough – The Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks boys’ ice hockey team lost in overtime 3-2 to the Wachusett Regional High School Mountaineers in the opening game of the Borough’s Cup Dec. 17.
Algonquin came from behind to tie up the game 2-2 on a goal by senior Paul Luongo with 0:57 left in regulation play. Connor Bernard scored in overtime to secure the win for Wachusett.
The Tomahawks wore their camo uniforms for the game and collected funds for the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of Spc. Brian Arsenault. Arsenault was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year and played on the Algonquin hockey team for 4 years.
Prior to the game, Elliot Arsenault, Brian’s cousin, dropped the ceremonial first puck and his parents, Dan and Leslie Arsenault were given a commemorative game jersey.
