Events

Marlborough – A Greek Festival will be held Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2-4, at Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, 9 Central St., Marlborough. Festival hours are noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 5 p.m. Monday.

Shrewsbury – As the town celebrates this year’s Spirit of Shrewsbury (SOS) Annual Fall Festival Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept 24, there will be one other special event tied into the weekend – the grand opening of Lakeway Commons.

Southborough - Fay School Farmers Market will be held Saturdays, Sept. 9 to Oct. 28, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the campus of Fay School, 23 Middle Road, Southborough. The market is open to all and will feature local produce, prepared food, and handmade goods from local vendors and Fay School faculty and staff.

Region - “Tell me, what is it you plan to do/With your one wild and precious life?”  - The Summer Day, Mary Oliver Those lines were part of the inspiration behind Life After the Diagnosis: Expert Advice on Living Well with Serious Illness for Patients and Caregivers.  The book and its author, Steven Pantilat, MD, set out to help people navigate the journey after a diagnosis. Notre Dame Health Care will be hosting an event with Dr. Pantilat to empower individuals and caregivers.

Marlborough - Marlborough resident Kathy Leonard has mixed feelings about the growth of the annual International Overdose Awareness vigil she helps to organize in the city.

Shrewsbury –This year’s Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival, the 21st in its history, will culminate with a number of events the weekend of Saturday, Sept 23, and Sunday, Sept. 24.

Shrewsbury – The Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library is teaming up with Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation to present a free outdoor concert for all ages.

Region - The Briarwood Community will feature an exhibition of hand-cut wood jigsaw puzzles dating back nearly 200 years from the private collection of Briarwood resident Bob Armstrong. “The Wonderful World of Wood Puzzles: An Exhibition of Hand Cut Wood Jigsaw Puzzles,” will be on display at the Gallery of Briarwood, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, Sunday, Sept. 3, through Thursday, Nov. 2.

Region – Nationally renowned author Kerry Ann Mendez will be the speaker for the Sutton Garden Club (SGC) meeting Tuesday, Sept. 19, starting promptly at 7 p.m., at the Dudley-Gendron American Legion Post 414, 156 Boston Road in Sutton. Light refreshments will be served. The Blackstone Valley Garden Club and the Grafton Garden Club are partnering with SGC for this event. Club members for all three clubs are welcome to attend at no charge. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. to provide attendees the chance to view and purchase copies of Mendez’s books. Parking is available on both sides of the Legion Post.

Grafton - Beneath sunny skies a group of eleven fourth to seventh grade students descended upon the Grafton Community Harvest Project to participate in a kids’ cooking class Aug. 8.    

Region - The Briarwood Community is accepting registrations for its ninth annual Golf Outing Thursday, Sept. 28, at Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston. Proceeds from the event will benefit a backup emergency generator for resident safety, comfort and care. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

Northborough - The Northborough Education Foundation (NEF) will hold the third annual Applefest Gala, “Cocktails and Dancing Under the Stars,” at Juniper Hills Golf Course Pavilion Friday, Sept. 15, from 7:30 pm – 11:30 p.m. The gala is part of Northborough’s annual Applefest weekend which is scheduled for Sept. 14-17.

Hudson – First United Methodist Church, 34 Felton St., Hudson, will hold a shredding event Saturday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a free event organized in partnership with AARP.

Marlborough – The Marlborough Public Library will be hosting a children’s concert featuring the Toe Jam Puppet Band Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 2 p.m.

Westborough – The next session of the popular Westborough 300th Anniversary Architectural Walking Tour will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 1 p.m.

Westborough – Luanne Crosby, a singer, songwriter and guitarist, will perform at Nourse Farm  in Westborough Sunday, July 30 from 2-4 p.m. Crosby has performed her original music in the community for many years and most recently has been involved with the town of Westborough 300th anniversary celebrations, for which she wrote a song dedicated to the town.

Roughly 1,300 children and their families clambered through cars and trucks at the Solomon Pond Mall’s “Touch a Truck” event June 3. The annual charity event raised money for Special Olympics Massachusetts and the Simon Youth Foundation.
