Shrewsbury selectmen approve library article for STM warrant

Shrewsbury – The Board of Selectmen discussed at its Oct. 9 meeting the addition of an article to the Oct. 30 Special Town Meeting (STM) warrant regarding funds for renovations at the town's public library. Town Manager Daniel Morgado suggested that such an article would authorize the Library Trustees to spend as much as $50,000 of the approximate $250,000 the town has budgeted for library renovations on definitive schematics.

Shrewsbury selectmen set policy for next fiscal year

Shrewsbury - At the top of the policy statement discussed by the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen (BOS) at its Oct. 9 meeting is the assertion that the board will not seek a Proposition 2 ? override during the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Instead, Town Manager Daniel Morgado urged the selectmen to ensure that budget recommendations from the BOS stay within the town's existing levy limit. The exception would be an article on the 2013 Annual Town Meeting warrant to pay for an unanticipated disaster or state of emergency.

Shrewsbury - The Shrewsbury Child Development Committee (SCDC) will be holding its annual Toy and Baby Gear Sale Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sherwood Middle School in Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury selectmen approve water hikes

Shrewsbury - The Board of Selectmen voted to increase Shrewsbury's water rates at its Sept. 25 meeting. The residential base rate for households consuming zero to 5000 gallons of water will rise from $19 to $21 per quarter. For every gallon used over that 5000 gallon base there will be an additional charge per 1000 gallons used. That tier is: 5,001 to 25,000 gallons, $3.40; 25,001 to 60,000 gallons, $6.30; and over 60,000 gallons, $10.00.

Selectmen approve new contract for Morgado

Shrewsbury – The Board of Selectmen approved a three-year contract for Town Manager Daniel Morgado at its Sept.26 meeting. Morgado has been the Town Manager since 1997; his new contract will be effective as of Oct. 1 and conclude on Sept. 30, 2015. The board recently completed an evaluation of Morgado's performance in various categories. Maurice DePalo, the board's chair, noted that Morgado's rankings were all either "distinguished" or "excellent."

Shrewsbury - Members of the committee have been hard at work planning the 16th Annual Spirit of Shrewsbury Festival to be held Sept. 28 to 30. Spirit of Shrewsbury Festival President Sabina Terrades has been involved with the festival for 12 years. "I began participating 12 years ago through my church, and it quickly became a tradition," she said. "This will be the eighth year I'se been in the parade with my church, the fifth year that I'se been the chairperson of the Oak Street Expo, and my third year as president."
