E.L. Harveys honors Team Hoyt

Hopkinton - Two of the most well-known athletes in Massachusetts, as well as in the sport of marathon running are the father-son duo of Dick and Rick Hoyt. This past April, Dick, 72, and Rick, 50, completed their 30th Boston Marathon. To commemorate that special occasion Easter Seals Massachusetts commissioned Hopkinton artist Dustin Neece to do a painting of the Hoyts. A limited series of lithographs of the painting are now being sold as a fundraiser for the Easter Seals.

After receiving support, Westborough student offers her own

Westborough - For Westborough High School (WHS) student Tess Mitchell, "Life is good." She is an excellent and motivated student, enjoys time with her friends and unlike many teens, has a close relationship with her mother, Bushra. But it has not always been that way for 17-year-old Tess. For the first few years of her life, she lived in her native Bangladesh with her parents and older brother, Raj. But her father's problem with anger management and subsequent abuse of his family caused tremendous strain, Tess said. After he divorced Bushra, their situation didn's improve and he made no effort to be with his children. The culture in Bangladesh, Tess added, does not offer much support to women who are on their own.

Rugby comes to town

Northborough/Southborough – It is not often you see a scrum in the Boston area. A scrum is a commonly used move in the sport of rugby. One of the oldest sports in the world, rugby was first played in England. Today, men and women can enjoy this competitive sport considered to be one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. The Northborough Southborough Rugby Association is now recruiting players for its upcoming summer season. The league, which plays "Sevens" rugby, has several teams in the association, including a men's team, a U-15 team and a U-12 clinic.

Five Northborough/Southborough seniors, friends since birth

Northborough/Southborough - For five local families, Lamaze class proved more than just a lesson in prepared childbirth. Following the birth of their babies at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham in late 1993 and early 1994, the five families became fast friends sharing many developmental milestones, birthday celebrations and holidays. On June 3, the "Lamaze friends" will be celebrating yet another milestone together as the babies have grown up and will be graduating from Algonquin Regional High School. At the suggestion of Lamaze instructor Lynn Marks, the group began meeting after the birth of their children. The first gathering for the entire group was a Sunday brunch at the Polymeros" house in January of 1994. Soon afterward, the stay-at-home moms began meeting Thursday mornings for playgroups at each other's houses.

Holy cow, the Belties are back!

Southborough - Spring is here and the Belted Galloways are back in the fields on Breakneck Hill Road. There is a new, rare addition to the group, a red Beltie calf - born to two black parents who must have each been carrying a red gene. The cows enjoy grazing along the grassy rolling hills and amongst the apple trees, basking in the sun and feasting on the lush grass. Chris Molinaro, vice president of the Breakneck Hill Cow Fund, and caretaker of the Belties, applies liquid bug repellant to the cows - a new formula which turns purple when applied. Molinaro said that the repellant is "super helpful" and lets him see which cows he has covered and which he has missed.
