Congregation B'sai Shalom in Westborough welcomes new rabbiWestborough – Rabbi Rachel Gurevitz has become the new spiritual leader at Congregation B'sai Shalom in Westborough. She joins B’nai Shalom from Congregation B'sai Israel in Bridgeport, Conn., where she has served as associate rabbi since 2006. A native of London, she received a bachelor of science and Ph.D. from University College London. She came to the United States to study at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in New York and was ordained in May 2006.

In addition to her liturgical duties at B'sai Israel, Gurevitz has worked in the field of social and environmental justice, and has published several papers on ethics and environmental education. In 2011, following a string of tornadoes, Gurevitz led a contingent of adults and youth from B'sai Israel to Alabama to assist in the clean-up.

Gurevitz is well known in the greater Bridgeport community for reaching out to all denominations, striving to keep the lines of communication open and increase understanding among religious communities.

She will reside in Westborough with her spouse, Suri Krieger, who is also a rabbi. They have four grown children from Krieger's previous marriage.
