HEFfer Fest BBQ competition, food festival Sept. 8 in Hudson

Hudson – The New England Barbecue Society and Hudson Education Foundation (HEF) are co-hosting HEFferFest, Hudson’s first BBQ competition and food festival, Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Hudson Elks Lodge, 99 Park St.

Guests will have the opportunity to sample food from six local restaurants and vote on their favorites. Participating restaurants include Café 577, Chloe, Horseshoe Pub, Slater’s Restaurant, Stevie’s BBQ, and Juliana’s Pizzeria. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to shop at vendor booths and enter the door prize drawing. Some entertainment will be provided for children, including a balloon artist in the afternoon.

There will also be live music and entertainment throughout the day, from local performers such as The Atomic Trousers, Staff Infection, The Elderly Brothers, Chris Tarantino, and the Competition Team from the Dance On studio.  The event is also hosting a BBQ contest, in conjunction with the New England BBQ society (www.nebs.org), with competitors trying to make the best ribs and wings, as scored by certified BBQ judges, for cash prizes and to earn points in the Team of the Year series standings.  This part of the event is for public observation only.

Tickets are $7 per person and free for ages 5 and under. Proceeds from ticket sales go to the Hudson Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides grants for innovative and creative educational programs in Hudson public schools for which local, state, and federal funding is not available.
