Westborough – The town of Westborough will host two public information sessions about the Westborough Community Choice electricity program in January. These events will include an overview of the program and a question and answer session during which Westborough residents and businesses can ask questions. Representatives from both Westborough municipal leadership and from Westborough’s consultants, Peregrine Energy Group, will be in attendance.
The meetings will be held on Monday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Westborough Senior Center, 4 Rogers Rd. and Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Town Hall, 34 W. Main St.
The town of Westborough will launch the Westborough Community Choice program in February 2016 to provide Westborough residents and businesses with a cost-effective, transparent electricity supply alternative to National Grid. The program is a municipal electricity aggregation. By bulk purchasing electricity for the entire community from Constellation Energy Power Choice, Inc., Westborough has secured a price that will, at program launch, beat the recently announced National Grid Basic Service winter rates by 3.8 cents/kWh.
Westborough Community Choice will launch with an initial 24-month electricity supply contract with Constellation Energy. The program will offer a fixed, stable price of 9.21 cents/kWh for all rate classes, including residential, commercial, and industrial. By offering a consistent price across the 24-month contract, Westborough Community Choice will offer protection from the significant winter and summer fluctuations in National Grid prices.
Those customers who wish to make an even greater commitment to renewable energy will be able to choose the Greener Option for a small premium. The Greener Option will integrate 20 percent new wind energy over and above state requirements.
