Obit Don HastingsShrewsbury – Donald R. Hastings passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.

Don will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Judith L (Berry) Hastings; his children, Gregory Hastings and wife Karen of Shrewsbury, Vicki McAuliffe and husband Jim of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Jennifer Furbish and husband Clyde of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Zachary Hastings, Josh McAuliffe, Ashley McAuliffe, Jenna Furbish, and Rachel Furbish; and nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Worcester, he was the son of Leon and Gertrude (Frazier) Hastings. He graduated from Boys Trade School and served in the Army Reserves. He and Judy raised their family on East Main Street in Northborough and moved to Shrewsbury in 1984.

Mr. Hastings spent his career working as a night crew chief for Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, retiring after 43 dedicated years of service. He was a member of Local 1445 UFCW.

He was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church of Northborough. He enjoyed playing checkers.

Don will be remembered by those who knew him as wonderful husband and father. A friend to all, he was known for his gentle demeanor and love of the Lord.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 12, from 4-7 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. His funeral will take place Saturday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m., in Rice Memorial Baptist Church, 85 Lincoln St., Northborough. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery of Springvale, Maine.
