Obit Richard StoneAbington, Pa. – Richard Leon Stone, 75, died Friday evening, July 29, 2016 after a sudden illness.  He was the husband of Barbara (Taliaferro) Stone, the love of his life to whom he was married for almost 52 years.

He was born in Marlborough, and was the son of the late Leon Lewis and Ruth Arlene (Hopkins) Stone. He and his wife lived in Westborough for most of their married life, with the exception of seven years in Marietta, Ga., and this past year when they lived in Dresher, Pa.

Dick was a graduate of Hudson High School, class of 1958, and attended Northeastern University and the New England Institute. He worked many years in sales and marketing for various pharmaceutical companies. For the last 10 years, he worked for Keller Williams Realty in Westborough.

Dick was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church of Westborough, where he served on numerous committees as well as the Board of Ordained Ministries.

He was a morning person, always with a cup of coffee, doing his morning devotions, enjoying the sunrise and excited about each new day. He never wanted to miss anything and captured many special images through his photography and shared them with everyone.

Dick thoroughly enjoyed golf, gathering with his bridge group, hanging with his Corvette friends, wintering in Naples, researching his family tree, attending family reunions, but most of all, spending time with family and friends.  He was a thoughtful and gentle person, always smiling, and generous with hugs. He always “looked you in the eye and made you feel special.”

In addition to his wife, the family he adored includes three daughters and their spouses, Jennifer Susanne Stone and Sharon Gaffney of Atlanta, Ga., Betsy Lynn Stone Plummer and Christopher Plummer of East Norriton, Pa., and Pamela Jean Stone Wardrip and Keith Wardrip of Philadelphia, Pa., ans one brother (his ‘bro’), Robert Lewis Stone and his wife Cynthia of Christiansburg, Va. He was blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, Madeline, Emily and Sophia Plummer, and Ryan and Eleanor Gaffneystone, as well as beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Stone’s funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Westborough, 120 West Main St. Burial will follow at Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 4-7 p.m., at the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Westborough First United Methodist Church and be directed to the Appalachian Service Project (ASP) or the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.
