Northborough – William Morse Hubbell, 83, a resident of Northborough for 55 years, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Marlborough Hospital Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 after a brief respiratory illness. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Frances (Mongeon) Hubbell, who died in 2005.

He leaves his daughter, Cynthia Rice and her husband Stuart of New Jersey; their children, Spencer and Nathan; his son, David Hubbell and his wife Jennifer of New Hampshire; and their children, Harrison and Lindsey. He was predeceased by his brother, Phillip. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and neighbors.

“Bill” was born in Worcester, the son of Mark and Marion (Morse) Hubbell. He graduated from Classical High School and became a sonarman in the navy from 1953-1957. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester State College.

He had a long, successful career in the engineering field, working for Raytheon and Oeco, and as general manager for Titan Transformers and Magnetika East.

Bill was an avid vegetable gardener and master woodworker. He was also an animal lover and made many friends while walking his dog, Rosa, in recent years. He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for the past several years, driving cancer patients to their treatments. He will be remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor, kindness, and quick wit.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 3, from 5-7 p.m., at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. The family will hold a private burial at Howard Street Cemetery in Northborough with military honors.
