Eagle Scout rank presented to Mike Strickland
Michael Strickland of Northborough has received the rank of Eagle Scout.
Northborough – Mike Strickland, 18, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Mike is the son of Bonnie and Dan Strickland, 37 Hamilton Rd., Northborough, and a member of Boy Scout Troop 1 also of Northborough.

 

In Mike's years as a Boy Scout, he has served Troop 1 as an instructor, scribe, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He has earned 36 merit badges.

For his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project, Mike led Scouts and volunteers in building, installing, and filling 10 6-foot by 10-foot wooden anchored boxes to serve as garden beds for the creation of the Northborough Community Garden on Valentine Road. Additionally, he led the building and installation of vegetable garden boxes at the Proctor, Peaslee, Lincoln and Zeh elementary schools.

Besides his scouting activities, Mike, who graduated in May from Algonquin Regional High School, participated in Team 1100 FIRST Robotics and the Diversity Awareness Club. He has also taught Lego Simple Machines classes at Northborough Free Library.

Mike celebrated his Eagle rank achievement with a Court of Honor and reception August 13, the same day as the grand opening celebration of the Northborough Community Garden.

Mike plans to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall and will major in mechanical and robotic engineering.
