Franklyn Sawtelle, 81Hudson – Franklyn Sawtelle, 81, formerly of Marlborough, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at Marlborough Hospital.

Born in Dexter, Maine, he was the son of the late Clifford and Katherine (Westgate) Sawtelle, and the husband of Dorothy (Larson) Sawtelle of Hudson. A 1947 graduate of Corinna Union Academy in Corinna, Maine, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was employed as an experimental machinist at the Raytheon Corp. until retiring in 1991.

He was a longstanding and active member of the First Church in Marlborough, and a member of the Masonic Lodge.He and his wife enjoyed traveling and, following his retirement, moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., returning to Hudson in 2002.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Ronald and wife Nancy Sawtelle of Marlborough and Michael Sawtelle and wife Ann of Hudson; his daughter, Beverly Wellen and husband William III of West Chester, Penn.; his brother, Clifford Sawtelle and wife Nola of Zephyrhills, Fla.; his sister, Elizabeth Dow and husband Herbert of Corinna, Maine; his grandchildren, Matthew Sawtelle, Heather McKenzie, David Wellen, Andrew Wellen, William Wellen and Cynthia Wellen; and his great-grandchildren, Brett McKenzie, Jeffrey McKenzie, Michaela McKenzie and Joshua Wellen. He was also the brother of the late Janet Smith.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m., at the First Church in Marlborough Congregational, 37 High St., Marlborough. Burial will be private and held at the National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.
