Shrewsbury skater qualifies for national competition

Shrewsbury – Kirsten Sjogren of Shrewsbury has qualified to compete in the 2011 USFSA National Solo Ice Dancing Championships.

She earned her invitation by placing second overall in qualifying points across the Eastern Section at the Bronze level. She will join 17 other qualifiers across the United States for the national title at a competition to be held in Colorado Springs at the Pike's Peak Classic for Pairs and Dance later this year.

Sjogren is 12 years old and started skating at age 7 and began ice dancing two years ago. She is a member of the Skating Club of Boston – Metro West, where she is coached by Dawn Ponte-Jarvis, Barbara Kossowska, Dmitri Kazarlyga and Nick Moormann.
