The C.A. six tips of the day for March 22Region – Today is Thursday, March 22. On this day in 1765 the British government passed the Stamp Act. Although this act was repealed a year later, it became a tipping point of sorts for the colonists who were unhappy about the series of taxes being levied against them by the British government. That tension, of course, would culminate in the American Revolution a decade later.

On this day in 1894, the first Stanley Cup championship game was played. The Cup, awarded to the National Hockey League's best team, was created by Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, a British lord who also served as Canada's governor general. The first Stanley Cup was awarded to the Montreal AAA team after they defeated the Ottawa Generals. The reigning Stanley Cup champions are the Boston Bruins; they defeated the Vancouver Canucks last June in the Cup finals.
