Marlborough – The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest, 169 Pleasant St., is asking residents to support their “No Show Ball” by not attending.
According to Julie Horrigan is the vice president of resource development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest (and Club Kid for years).
“We were looking for a unique and fun fundraising idea for 2012,” she said, “one which would elicit a large volume of new donors, and the “No Show Ball” was born.”
Completely driven by social media with absolutely zero money up front, the “No Show Ball” is exactly that – a nonexistent event. The public is asked to purchase “virtual tickets” for $5 each with 100 percent of the money going to the kids. Within Marlborough, Hudson and Framingham, the Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest serves an average of 650 children each day.
“Although “Club Kids” pay $25 per year to belong to the Boys & Girls Club, the cost for the organization runs upwards of $1,000 per child per year,” Horrigan said, “so fundraising is extremely important for us.”
The goal for this 60-day campaign, which began Feb. 1, was to raise $5,000 in 60 days. Today, the goal has been far surpassed, with over 2,400 donors contributing over $12,000. The new goal has been set at $15,000.
The event itself will “not” take place Sunday, April 1 – April Fool's Day.
