Esther E. Viscera, 87Shrewsbury – Esther E. “Betty” (Grundstrom) Viscera died Friday, April 6, 2012 in The Christopher House. She was 87.

Born Feb. 23, 1925 in Worcester, she was a daughter of the late Godfrey O. and Esther E. (Beauregard) Grundstrom and was a graduate of the former Commerce High School.

Mrs. Viscera worked as a secretary for the Worcester Redevelopment Authority for many years before retiring in 1985.

She was an active member of the Shrewsbury Senior Center, where she was a constant and friendly fixture. For over 10 years, she volunteered in its Meals on Wheels program. She was also a communicant of Saint Anne's Church and taught in its CCD program.

She rejoins her first husband, Philip Johnson; her second husband, Michael H. Viscera; her children, Beth F. (Johnson) Berthiaume and Alan Johnson; and her siblings, Godfrey L. and Edward R. Grundstom.

She leaves her siblings, Helen L. Nobiletti of Shrewsbury and Robert F. Grundstrom of Worcester; grandchildren; nieces and nephews; a close friend, Barbara Cheverfils of Shrewsbury; and her much loved cat, “Sally.”

The family wishes to thank all the staff of The Christopher House for their loving care.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Mrs. Viscera's life at a graveside service Thursday, April 12, at 1 p.m., in Mountain View Cemetery, Boylston Street (Route 140) in Shrewsbury. Rev. Paul T. O’Connell will officiate. A reception will follow at the Shrewsbury Senior Center, 98 Maple Ave. Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors is assisting with arrangements.
