Region – Today is Friday, July 13, the 195th day of 2012. Are you consumed with panic and fear when you think about Friday the 13ths? If so, tell your family and friends you are not just a “fraidy cat – you are a paraskevidekatriaphobic! You might also be relieved to know that today is the last Friday the 13th of July.
If you are a rock fan of a “certain age,” then most likely on this day in 1985 you woke up early so you could watch the LiveAid concert being broadcast from London. The 16-hour concert, the brainchild of Bob Geldof, was a fundraiser to help the victims of the African famine. 75 of music's biggest stars played either in London or at the concert's satellite location, the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia that day.
On this day in 2010, baseball lost one of its most colorful and controversial characters, when George Steinbrenner, the owner of the New York Yankees, passed away at age 80.
Today's birthdays include: actors Harrison Ford (1942) and Patrick Stewart (1940) and comedian Cheech Marin (1946).
