Shrewsbury – An iconic clock located on the island of Maple Avenue and West Main Street was knocked over early yesterday morning after being hit by a car. Shrewsbury Police Lieutenant Joseph McCarthy said there were no injuries reported in the single-car accident, but the car was totaled.
The name of the person involved and whether they will face any charges has not yet been released, he said. Officer Timothy Charland responded to the accident after the department received a 911 call.
The clock was a gift to the town from the Shrewsbury Rotary Club. Art Dobson, a member of that club, said it is hoped that the club and town officials will be able to replace the clock.
