Marlborough – Mayor Arthur Vigeant announced Aug. 13 that applications for the Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off (“SCRPT”) Program are now available. This program allows Marlborough seniors over the age of 60 to perform volunteer services for the city of Marlborough in exchange for a reduction on their property tax of up to $1,000.
“The senior community in our city has been looking forward to having this program for quite some time. This program promotes volunteerism and engagement and is a win-win for both the city as well as the participants,” said Vigeant.
Vigeant credits the work done by City Council President Trish Pope and the City Council's Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee with developing a program that ensures fairness and transparency.
“The City Council worked closely with my office to build a strong foundation for this program. I's grateful for their hard work and efforts,” he said.
The COA and the mayor's office will hold an informational session for this new program on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Council on Aging's (COA) office, 250 Main St. This session is open to all Marlborough seniors.
Applications are available online at the city's homepage under the “Quick Links” section (www.marlborough-ma.gov). Hard copy applications may also be picked up in person at the COA office,? the Marlborough Public Library, 35 W. Main St., and City Assessor's office, 140 W. Main St.
The application will contain a summary of the eligibility requirements for program participation as well as a checklist of the required paperwork for a complete application.
All applications must be turned in to the COA office by the end of the day on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Anyone with further questions may call Jennifer Claro, COA director, at (508) 485-6492 or Mike Berry, the mayor's executive assistant, at (508) 460-3770.
