Shrewsbury loses in OT to Wachusett

Region – The third-seed Shrewsbury High School Colonials faced the second-seed Wachusett Regional High School Mountaineers for the Central Mass Division 3 boys” hockey semi-final game at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg March 6.

The first period ended in a 0-0 tie as both teams battled evenly up and down the ice. In the second period, the Colonials outshot the Mountaineers and it paid off as Jack Quinlivan (assisted by David Belbin) scored the only goal for a 1-0 lead after two periods.

?In the third period, it was the Mountaineers’ turn as they scored the only goal with an outstanding effort by Marc Happy (assisted by Colin O’Brien). At the end of regulation the teams were tied 1-1. ?

?In the overtime, Shrewsbury had two breakaway chances but Wachusett's defense came through each time. The Mountaineers’ Colin Bennie (assisted by Jack Watkins) then scored the game winner at the 1:25 mark.

Wachusett will face Groton-Dunstable Regional High School for the District title; Groton-Dunstable defeated Marlborough High School 5-2 on Mar 6.”
