Region – The fourth-seed Marlborough High School Panthers journeyed to the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg on March 6 to battle the top-seed Groton-Dunstable Regional High School Crusaders for their Central Mass. Division 3 boys” hockey semi-final game.
In a physical game, the Crusaders staked an early first period 2-0 lead behind goals by Brad Zadrozny (assisted by Connor Maguire and Anthony Resca) and Allan Haynes (assisted by Matt Ovenden).
The Panthers stepped up their play in the second period and tied the game up with goals from Erik Bastarache (assisted by Steven Lampedecchio and Jake Chiasson) and Chiasson (assisted by Lampedecchio and Sam Voss).
In the third period however, it was all Groton-Dunstable as goals by C.J. Kenny (assisted by Resca and Justin Cole), Mike Keating (assisted by Adam Kmetz and Allan Haynes), and Nathan Rabbitt sewed the game up for a 5-2 final score.
The Crusaders will next play the Wachusett Regional High School Mountaineers who defeated Shrewsbury High School 2-1 in overtime on March 6 at the Wallace Civic Center in Fitchburg. (Photos/Chris Wraight)
