Shrewsbury – Over 1,000 senior citizens came out on a beautiful summer day Aug. 17 to celebrate the Sheriff's Annual Senior Picnic. The event, hosted by Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis, was held at the Scandinavian Athletic Club (SAC PARK).
“As Sheriff, hosting the Annual Senior Picnic is one of the great highlights of the year. It's always a great honor to give back to our seniors who have given so much to our communities and I am thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout of well over 1,000 seniors to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of fun, food and music,” Evangelidis said.
The picnic is sponsored by the Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff's Association and included donations by many local businesses. Over 100 volunteers also assisted with the event.
Shrewsbury resident Barbara Cotoia noted her pleasure in attending the event.
“This was by far the best senior picnic ever, the Sheriff and his great team of volunteers treated us to a fun-filled day of delicious food, raffles and bingo. I cannot thank Sheriff Evangelidis enough for hosting this wonderful picnic and for his dedication to our county's seniors,” she said.
