Westborough – The Westborough High School Rangers hosted the Shrewsbury High School Colonials for their “Tackle for Leukemia” football game on Oct. 19.? Individuals fighting leukemia or who had lost their battle were honored with a special collection, raffle and recognition during half-time.
The Colonials struck first, on a run by Nicholas Diliberto and point-after by Kristofer Swedberg for a 7-0 lead.? The Colonials’ Emmanuel Jalbert scored next, also on a run and Swedberg hit the point-after.? The Rangers were able to get on the scoreboard with a field goal by Jack Churma (Kevin Sanders holding).
In the second quarter Shrewsbury added two more touchdowns (Jakob McVane run, Swedberg point-after) and another Diliberto run (Swedberg point-after) and had a 28-3 lead at the half.
In the third quarter the Colonials’ Jalbert had a touchdown reception (Swedberg point-after missed) and the Colonials’ Michael Abasciano broke free for a 77-yard run (Swedberg point-after).
The fourth quarter saw Shrewsbury's Chris Lazarek scoring their last touchdown (Zach Fink point-after) while Westborough's Kevin Doherty ran the kickoff back 70 yards (Chuma point-after) for a final score of 48-10, Shrewsbury.
With the win, Shrewsbury head coach Terry Walles notched his 100th career win.
