Marlborough-large-web-icon1Marlborough – A formal ground breaking ceremony for the city's new senior center was held at Ward Park Nov. 12. ?Council on Aging (COA) Director Jennifer Claro welcomed those in attendance and introduced James Confrey, the chair of the COA's board of directors.

“I want to thank Mayor Arthur Vigeant for including many interested members of the senior community in the planning of this exciting project – a new senior center at Ward Park,” said Confrey. “I thought it was the perfect location when you first mentioned it and I feel more strongly about it now that it has become a reality. Mr. Mayor, we deeply appreciate your keeping this project a priority since you became the leader of the city. We know it hasn's been easy but your persistence brought about success and demonstrated your dedication to the senior population.”

Confrey introduced City Council President Trish Pope who welcomed other councilors in attendance.? Mayor VIgeant recognized members of the design team and Facilities Director John Ghiloni for their dedication to the project.

Vigeant proposed and the council approved a facility to be built in the northeast end of Ward Park that will have a footprint of 14,500 square feet. Councilors approved funding earlier this month.
