Marlborough – Close to 30 job seekers attended a free Résumé Development Workshop at the Embassy Suites Sept. 23, kicking off this year’s Marlborough Works! program.
This was the first of three Marlborough Works! events organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) as part of Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s initiative to increase local employment.
For the first time in the initiative’s three-year run, the MEDC will hold not one, but two free workshops for job seekers, ahead of the flagship Marlborough Works! Job Fair to be held Oct. 7.
The newly-added LinkedIn Workshop will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 pm at the Embassy Suites, and will aim to help attendees understand how to create a winning online résumé.
Addressing the Sept. 23 workshop attendees, Vigeant said that employment opportunities in Marlborough are steadily increasing.
“The influx of innovative new companies into Marlborough has contributed greatly to improving job market conditions here,” he said. “Employers of all sizes and in a multitude of sectors are making our city their home, and I want nothing more than to ensure that Marlborough residents have every chance to see all the exciting opportunities that exist. By organizing a job fair, we’ve created the platform for many of these new companies to meet their future employees. They say showing up is sometimes half the battle. So, if you’re on the job market today, there is no better place to be.”
The Marlborough Works! Job Fair will take place on October 7th from 6pm to 8pm at the Courtyard by Marriott-Marlborough Ballroom. Veterans and attendees of the Marlborough Works! workshops, will receive priority access to employers at the fair, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Close to 30 companies from various industries have already signed up to take part in the free event, including GE Healthcare, Quest Diagnostics, SanDisk, Boston Scientific, and many more.
Although registration is not mandatory, those interested in attending the Marlborough Works! Job Fair are encouraged to register at www.etrcc.com/forms-marlborough-job-fair-registration.php. Those interested in taking the LinkedIn Workshop should call 508 -766-5767 to register.
