Northborough – The Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks football team defeated the North Middlesex Regional Patriots 21-19 at the Tomahawks’ first home game of the season Sept. 26, in front of a crowd of 7,211. This was the first win this season for the Tomahawks, whose record is now 1-2. The Patriots fell to 2-1, after suffering their first loss.
The Tomahawks’ running back, senior Sean Boullianne, rushed for two touchdowns and junior Billy Polymeros rushed for one. Eric Hart kicked the extra point after each of the touchdowns. Patriots quarterback John Boutwell, completed two touchdown passes, including one for 55 yards to Ryan MacDonald.
The game was highlighted by two key defensive stands by the Tomahawks. A Patriots drive was stopped at the 1-yard line as the clock wound down at the end of the first half. The Patriots rallied again in fourth quarter and with two touchdowns to bring the score to 21-19 with just seconds left on the clock, but the Tomahawks defense drove Boutwell out of bounds just inches from the goal line as he attempted to tie up the game with a two point conversion.
