Worcester – Charles E. Reed, 88, of Worcester, formerly of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 in his home after a brief illness. His wife of 55 years, Lorraine T. (Berthiaume), died in 2003.
He leaves several nieces and nephews, and his extended family; Anne Schofield, her daughter, Melissa; and her son, Andrew; and Nicole and her son, Joshua. His sister, Carol Henry, predeceased him.
Charles was born and educated in Worcester. He was the son of the late Charles and Julia (Walinsky) Reed. He served his country proudly in WWII as a member of the U.S. Army. He was highly decorated for his service in the European Theatre.
He worked for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority as a street inspector for many years prior to retiring.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour Friday, Oct. 24, from 10-11 a.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., followed by a brief service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
