Obit William A DeMaliaShrewsbury – William A. DeMalia Sr., 87, of Shrewsbury entered into eternal life Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, Anno Domini.

He was born Jan. 27, 1927 in Worcester to Andrew V. DeMalia and Mary A. (Casale) DeMalia. On May 10, 1952, hemarried Teresa Santa Sabatalo. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College in 1956 and his Master’s Degree in 1967. He was a WWII Army veteran and obtained the rank of Sergeant in the 37th constabulary squadron stationed in Germany.

William lived for his Faith and his Family and made a large impact on everyone he met. He was a devout Roman Catholic and a daily communicant who enjoyed the Tridentine Mass and traveling to Europe with his wife, visiting the Vatican, Swiss Alps and Vienna to see the waltzes.

He enjoyed opera, listening to Bishop Sheen and the many audiences with Pope John Paul II. He was a man known for his honesty and integrity. He never put himself first and always sacrificed for his family. He would never accept praise but was always willing to offer it.

William was lovingly known as “Grandfather” and his motto was “AMDG” – Ad maiorem Dei gloriam (For the greater glory of God).

He was a professor at Nichols College and Boston College for many years. He was also a Certified Public Accountant for over 60 years in his private practice. He had many clients who were also close friends and was also a longtime member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish in Worcester.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 60 years, Teresa; a son, Andrew V. DeMalia; a grandson/godson, Vincent W. DeMalia; and a brother, Andrew V. DeMalia Jr.

William is survived by his three sons, William A. DeMalia Jr and his wife Patricia of Rockledge, Fla. and their children, Renee, Michelle, Billy, and Anthony; Michael A. DeMalia and his wife Jeanne of Shrewsbury and their children, Nicole, Michael, Rocco, Dominic, Danielle, Brittany, Salvatore, Angelo, Lorenzo, Cassidy, Antonio, and Jessie; John A DeMalia and his wife Laurie of Hubbardston, and their children, John, Matthew, Angela, James, Maria, and Christina; and his two daughters, Theresa M.A. and her husband Frank Rocco of Worcester and Mary T. Farina of Shrewsbury and her children, Vincent and Maria, with whom he lived; his deceased son Andrew’s children, Andrew, Valerie, Adam, Jason, and Jared; 12 great-grandchildren; his in-laws, Richard, Pat, Jeanne, Joseph Sabatalo, and Elaine DeMalia; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 4-8 p.m., in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His funeral will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 30 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Worcester. Burial will follow next to his wife in St. John Cemetery in Worcester.
