Shrewsbury – “New Excavations at the Pyramids,” a talk by Dr. John Nolan, will be presented Monday, Oct. 19, from 7-8 p.m., at the Shrewsbury Public Library, 214 Lake St. Since 1989, Dr. Mark Lehner and the Ancient Egypt Research Associates (AERA) have been excavating ancient remains at Giza, Egypt, the site of the Great Pyramids. Over the course of 26 years, the AERA team has uncovered the footprints of ancient settlements inhabited when the pyramids at Giza were being built. This talk will showcase AERA’s techniques and approaches to exploring these ancient ruins and touch on some recent discoveries.

Dr. Nolan has been working in Egypt since 1991. From 1998 until 2004 he was the Assistant Field Director for the Ancient Egypt Research Associates’ (AERA) excavations at Giza, Egypt. Since 2004 he has served as AERA’s Associate Director and Senior Epigrapher. In 2010 he received his Ph. D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago. His primary interest is the administration, economy and chronology of Egypt’s Pyramid Age. He currently lives and works in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
