Shrewsbury – Mabel G. (Skiffington) Cummings, 91, a longtime Shrewsbury resident, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.

She was born in Somerville and raised by her mother Millie and step-dad, Milton Tanner. She graduated from Somerville High School.

Mabel is most proud of her many years of working at the Worcester Foundation of Experimental Biology, where she was an Executive Secretary to Mahlon Hoagland and Dr. Fredrico Welch. She retired in 1995.

She was a very dedicated and loving mother. Mabel’s family and her home were so very important to her.

Mabel is survived by her two children, Harry Clinton Cummings Jr. of Lawrence and Janice E. Cummings and her life partner Roberta A. Hamilton, both of Cambridge, Vt.; a cousin, Pat Collins of Walnut Creek, Calif.; her dear friend of 80-plus years, Pat Thornton and her three children, Bill, Stephen, and Carole of Burlington; and her two cats, Jamee and Willy, who she adored.

Mabel’s family is very grateful for her two longtime dedicated caregivers, Eileen and Stacy, for all of their care, and compassion that was shown to Mabel and her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mabel’s family Sunday, Dec. 6, from 1-2 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will be Monday, Dec. 7 in Purtian Lawn Cemetery of Peabody.
