62

Obit Sister Angeline M. MartelMarlborough – Sister Angeline Martel, SSCh (Sr. Marie Jacques) died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough.

Born in Ipswich, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Stella M. (Trudel) Martel. She was taught by the Sisters of St. Chretienne in her parish school, St. Stanislaus, in Ipswich. Their example led her to enter the Novitiate in 1944 and take her final vows in 1951.

With a Master’s degree in Education, she taught school from 1947 to 1981 in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine. She developed a special love for children with special needs and taught those with learning disabilities in the Newburyport Public School system, as well as at St. Pius V School in Lynn. She had the gift of making learning fun!

She was content and happy wherever she was sent to minister.

Although “Angie” suffered from painful arthritis for many years, her joyful disposition was appreciated in her community and remained the same even after being transferred to Marie Esther Health Center, where she received the best of care.

Sister is survived by her sisters, Emma Chmara and Stella Lavalee of Ipswich. She was also the sister of the late Adrien, Raymond, Francis and Henry Martel, Marie Ann Hall and Alida Marchisio.

Sister Angeline will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her example of a lifetime of faithful service to God and his children was an inspiration.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 9-10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at the Chapel of the St. Chretienne Retirement Residence, 197 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough. Arrangements are under the direction of the Slattery Funeral Home of Marlborough.
