Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Hudson – Herbert I. Gorey, 94, a resident of Hudson since 1965, died peacefully in his home Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 after a long illness.

Herb proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a master wood carver whose beautiful craftsmanship was sought out by many. His work can still be seen in the hand carved oak panels of the graduating classes of Groton Academy in Groton and St Mark’s Academy in Southborough.

Herb loved the arts and the opera, and he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He shared 62 loving years of marriage with his late wife Joy, the “joy” of his life. He is survived by his sons, Robert (Theresa) of Andover, Christopher (Lynn) of Ingonish, Nova Scotia, and David (ChenChen) of Hudson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Church of Syracuse, N.Y.

A special thanks to Lucy Ndegwa of Comfort Zone Home Care of Framingham, who provided Herb such wonderful care and support during his long infirmity.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Family and friends may attend a calling hour from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice Marlborough, 406 Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA 01752.
