Grafton – The Grafton Board of Selectmen held a moment of silence at their May 3 meeting for Edwin Finn, who passed away this week at age 96. Finn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist’s mate and then returned home to work as a pharmacist. Finn gave his full support to Grafton and became the store manager at Village Drugs in Northbridge. He was a big fan of Grafton and Northbridge sports teams and became an honorary member of the Grafton Fire Department Station 3 in 1979, received the ‘Humanitarian of the Year’ award from the Grafton Lions Club in 1997 and the lifetime Community Service Award from the town of Grafton in 1998.
Also May 3, the board voted unanimously to open the Electricity Aggregation Plan to public comment until June 1. There were no public comments on this at the May 3 meeting. This is the Grafton Energy Choice Program.
The board unanimously approved the Kearsarge Energy Solar Agreement, in which Kearsarge promises to meet neighbors’ screening and conservation requirements and proposes to meet approximately 29 percent of Grafton’s total electricity needs.
Superintendent of Parks and Cemeteries Phil Johnson initiated a conversation about different pesticides and herbicides being used around town. The discussion revolved around issues of , cost differences, and the differences involving school properties and public facilities.
Town Moderator Raymond Mead advised the board how electronic voting units would be confirmed to be working properly at the Town Meeting May 9. The Special and Annual Town Meeting warrants are available at www.grafton-ma.gov/home/news/town-meeting-and-election-warrants.
