Hudson – Maria C. (Chaves) Braga, 92, of Hudson, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at the Marlborough Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Marlborough. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Viveiros Braga, who died in 1976.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Jose M. and Umbelina (Cabral) Chaves. She immigrated to Hudson from Santa Maria in 1966 and was employed by Data General in Southborough for many years. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.
Maria enjoyed gardening and knitting in her spare time. She always looked forward to visiting family and friends on her frequent trips back to Santa Maria. She truly loved spending time with her family in Hudson, especially later with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her memories will always be cherished by all who loved and knew her.
Maria is survived by her three children, Jose C. Braga and his wife Maria of California, Maria F. Rummerfield and her husband Larry of Hudson, and Antonio C. Braga and his wife Josefina of Brazil. She also leaves her seven loving grandchildren and 10 adoring great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Jose Chaves, Antonio Chaves, and Filomena Cabral.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 24, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial services will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery of Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Thursday, June 23, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
