Dorothy E. Tivnan, 87, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – Dorothy E. (Hall) Tivnan, 87, longtime Shrewsbury resident, died in her home Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017. Her husband of 61 years, Paul J. Tivnan, died April 10, 2016.

She leaves six children, Patricia Tivnan Testarmata and her husband John, Elizabeth Tivnan, Susan M. Boutot and her husband Paul, Paul A. Tivnan and his wife Patrice, and Stephen Tivnan and Christina Tivnan; six grandchildren, Amy Becker Seed, Audra E. Becker, Maegan Boutot, Katie Boutot, Brian Coache, and Andrew Coache; three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Andrew Seed and Bridgette Becker; a sister, Marjorie Kelly of Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by siblings John Hall, Barbara Ellis, and Norman Hall.

Dorothy was born in Worcester, daughter of Norman and Mary Hall. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School and Sargent College at Boston University, and received her Master’s degree in Education from Worcester State College.

She was a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, the Audubon Society, Sargent College Alumni Association, MTA and the EAW. She enjoyed traveling and spending summers on Cape Cod.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dorothy’s family Thursday, Jan. 26, from 4-7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 27, with a Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
