Northborough/Shrewsbury – The first snowstorm of the season Dec. 9 added to the festive spirit as both the Northborough and Shrewsbury police departments held toy collection drives for kids in Worcester County who might not otherwise receive toys this holiday season.

Both towns continued their long tradition of hosting the toy drives to “Fill the Wagon,” joining forces with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.

This was the second weekend for the Northborough Police Department at their new collection point outside the Toys “R” Us at Northborough Crossing, where they averaged 14 very large boxes of toys each day during their weekend drives.

In Shrewsbury, the Police Department headquarters on Maple Avenue served as the collection point. Santa made an appearance to help collect toys where a welcome cup of hot cocoa was waiting for those who dropped off a toy. By late morning, the department was well on the way to filling their large police wagon.
