Region – Six local residents will be celebrating the New Year in a very special way – participating in the iconic 2018 Tournament of Roses Parade as members of the UMass Minuteman Marching Band.

Christina Furtado and Jessica Vilensky, both of  Marlborough,  Rachel Marcus and Mikayla Wilcox, both of Westborough, and Jem Sibbick of Northborough, will be marching alongside 400 of their classmates in the parade, Monday, Jan. 1, which is held each year in Pasadena, Calif.

Westborough resident Jared Bloch, a master’s student in Wind Conducting and teaching assistant for the band, will travel with them to California to assist during the trip.

Westborough residents will recall that the band participated in the town’s 300th Anniversary Grand Parade in September which they used as a dress rehearsal of sorts in preparation for the Tournament of Roses Parade.

The Jan. 1 parade starts at 11 a.m. EST and can be viewed on a variety of television stations including NBC, ABC, The Hallmark Channel, HGTV, Univision, RFD TV and Amazon Prime for members with a Prime Account.

The parade can also be viewed streaming live at ktla.com/roseparade or without commentary on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ktla5.
