Eleanor BlaquereMarlborough – Eleanor (Martel) Blaquere, 97, of Marlborough, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at Sunrise of Weston.

Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Amadee and Antonia (Cormier) Martel and the wife of the late Robert W. Blaquere, who died in 2005. A 1939 graduate of Lasell College, Auburndale, Mrs. Blaquere had been employed as a secretary for the Superintendant of Schools for the town of Natick. She retired in 1981.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish and the Marlborough Country Club, where she played golf and cross country skied. She was also a member of the Ace of Clubs, which originated in the 1930s and continues today. Ellie and her sister, Gertrude, the two remaining members of the group, played cards with their niece, Cheryl, and their friend, Barbara, last week and the tradition will continue on with Gertrude.

She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Bird of Marlborough; her nieces, Cheryl Blackwood, Patricia Coulson and Lee Atherton; her nephew, James Martel; and her close friend, Barbara Wilson, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also the sister of the late Edouard Martel and the sister-in-law of the late Francis Bird.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m., at St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough. There will be no funeral home visiting hours.
