Richard C. WalkerRochester – Richard C. Walker, 82, of Rochester, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 at the Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of Gwendolyn (Carlson) Walker of Beaumont, Calif., celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary in January.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Everett and Beatrice (Creighton) Walker. He was educated in Westborough schools and was a 1953 graduate of Westborough High School. Richard served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Farmington State Teachers College in Farmington, ME and earned a Master’s in Education from Worcester State College.

Richard taught history, geography and social studies for 35 years at the Millbury High School and Shaw Middle School. He worked Saturdays and summers at Village Lumber in Westborough for many years.

He enjoyed camping in Maine with his family, traveling across country taking in the scenic, cultural and historic wonders. He was an avid reader and a devoted, respected father. He raised his family in West Boylston before moving to Rochester in 2004. He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Middleborough.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by six children, Wendy Finch of Rochester, Bruce Walker of Albion, Maine, Keith Walker of West Boylston, Matthew Walker of Fairfield, Calif., Mindy Bernard of Millbury, and Rebecca Walker of Worcester; one brother, John Walker of Leesburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl Walker of Westborough, who he dearly missed.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m., in the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 4-7 p.m.
