Grafton – The visiting sixth-seeded Westborough Rangers boys’ basketball team defeated the third-seeded Grafton Indians by a score of 69-47 in a Central Mass. Division 2 quarterfinal playoff game played on March 1.
Westborough jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. Five Rangers scored in double figures, led by Matt Doherty with 20 points. Domenic Caspariello and Michael Doherty each scored 12, Alex Badger scored 11 and Jake Hughes added 10.
Grafton’s Kyle Sawtelle was the game’s top scorer with 22 points, and Will Herndon contributed 9 points.
Westborough advances to the semifinal round where they will face second-seeded Groton-Dunstable. The game will be played 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 at WPI. Grafton concludes their season with an overall 12-9 record.
