Region – It was a tough weekend for local area high school basketball teams as both Algonquin Regional and Marlborough high schools were defeated in their respective Central Mass. Division Finals playoff games this past weekend. The division finals games for all four divisions were held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Harrington Auditorium.
On March 9, Algonquin fell to Franklin by a score of 58-53 in the Division 1 finals. Algonquin came from behind to tie the score at 49-49 with six minutes remaining in the game, but that was as close as they were able to get due to a combination of untimely turnovers and missed shots. Algonquin’s Nick Redden was the game’s top scorer with 25 points.
On March 10, Marlborough fell to Shepherd Hill 53-47 in the Division 2 finals. Marlborough had built an 18-point lead by halftime, but managed only 11 points in the second half, while Shepherd Hill staged a furious comeback. Marlborough senior Chris Doherty, who is Notre Dame-bound, scored 24 points.
